Can You Wash Jazz Shoes? Step by Step Guide

Can You Wash Jazz Shoes

We all know that jazz shoes are expensive. They also have a tendency to get dirty faster than other types of dance shoes. This is why it’s important for you to know if you can wash them or not, and how!

In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of washing your jazz shoes – as well as what materials they’re made out of and whether or not they can be washed with soap and water like regular athletic sneakers!

Can You Wash Jazz Shoes?

If your jazz shoes are made of leather, then they can be washed with soap and water. If you have a pair that does not mesh or lycra, you will want to use a gentle detergent without bleach so it doesn’t discolor the shoe.

It’s also best to hand wash them in cold water rather than putting them in the washing machine.

Once they are clean, make sure you get rid of all excess water by placing them on a towel and standing on them so that your weight pushes any remaining moisture out through the soles.

Then air dry in a warm place for 24 hours before wearing again!

For jazz shoes made with mesh or lycra, the best way to clean them is with a wipe down. These materials do not hold up well in the washing machine, and if you put them through it they can rip or become misshapen.

If your jazz shoes are made of any other material (leather, suede, etc), then take them to a shoe repair shop right away to have them professionally cleaned.

If you’re still not sure, just ask your favorite instructor or studio owner for their advice on washing jazz shoes!

What are the Materials that Jazz Shoes are Made of?

Jazz shoes can be made out of a variety of materials: leather, suede, mesh and lycra – as well as a combination of these materials.

  • Leather jazz shoes can be washed with soap and water, making them a great choice if you want to keep your dance bag as light as possible when going from class to practice or performance! They are also incredibly durable – so much that they have been known to outlast other types of jazz shoes for years!
  • Suede jazz shoes are not intended to be washed with soap and water, since this will damage the material. Instead, use a lint roller or tape if you need to get rid of excess dirt on your dance shoes!
  • Mesh jazz shoes can also be easily cleaned in between classes by using two wet cloths – one for soles and another for the uppers. This is because using only one wet cloth will not clean both areas equally!
  • Lycra jazz shoes are typically worn when you need to be barefoot – so they should never get soaked with water or sweat since this can lead them to stretch out over time. Wipe these down after each dance class rather than putting them in the washing machine!

All of these materials are also available on more affordable jazz shoes – which is great if you’re on a budget but still want to perform at your best!

What Can I Do if My Jazz Shoes are Mesh or Lycra?

If your jazz shoe uppers are mesh or lycra, they can easily become stretched out if you get them wet! This is why it’s best to wipe down these types of jazz shoes instead of putting them through the washing machine.

Mesh and lycra materials are also a lot more breathable than leather or suede, which means they can dry fairly quickly – making wiping down your dance shoes between classes a good idea!

If you really want to be sure that your shoes are clean, then bring them to a local shoe cobbler so they can ensure all of the dirt is removed. They’ll also know which cleaners are safe on the materials used for your jazz shoes – making them an ideal contact if you have questions about washing or caring for them!

Protect Your Investment

No matter what type of jazz shoe you have, it’s important to protect your investment by taking care of it properly!

This means using soap and water for leather uppers, two wet cloths for mesh and lycra upper materials, and bringing your dance shoes to a cobbler instead of putting them through the washer if they’re made out of anything else.

Most importantly, use a warm and well-ventilated area to dry your jazz shoes after cleaning them!
